As a Home Visitor - Early Childhood Education Specialist with SCMCAA, you will play a vital role in providing early childhood education and support services to families in a home-based option.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Conduct weekly 90-minute home visits to young children and their families to assess their needs and provide support.
2. Develop and implement curriculum for child development in the context of the home and during group socialization experiences.
3. Facilitate group socialization experiences and other family group activities to promote socialization and community engagement.
4. Provide education and support services to families, including health education, parenting skills, and child development guidance.
5. Conduct screening and ongoing assessment of young children's development to identify areas of strength and weakness.
6. Collaborate with families to establish family development goals and document this collaborative process in family partnership agreements.
7. Promote parental involvement in curriculum planning, program governance, and the overall MIECHV program.
8. Monitor and educate parents with respect to children's health status, including medical follow-up, physical health, dental health, mental health, and nutritional intake.
9. Provide management, crisis intervention, and resource referral process to support families in need.
10. Act as liaison and advocate between community resources and Head Start families.
11. Transport families when appropriate to and from doctor/dental visits and socialization experiences.
12. Complete documentation of home visits, socialization experiences, and other relevant activities.
13. Maintain confidentiality of family records and information.
14. Participate fully in supervision and training experiences.
15. Understand responsibility of being a mandated reporter for Child Abuse and Neglect.

Qualifications:

1. Minimum of an Associate's degree in child development, education, social sciences, or a related field.
2. At least one year of experience working with children and families in a human service setting.
3. Obtain Family Development Credential within one year of employment.
4. Attend training as available and pertains to position.
5. Provide background screen, immunizations, and health examination as required by state licensing, Head Start Performance Standards, and ACA MIECHV grant.
6. Capacity to problem solve, handle crises, and work with families and children of various cultures from low-income backgrounds.
7. Approach to working with families that is empathic, nonjudgmental, respectful, and professional.
8. Willingness to work primarily in the homes of families residing in high-risk communities.
9. Flexibility with respect to time and days able to work as well as to work tasks.
10. Active chauffeur's license.

Working Conditions:

Risk of exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Risk involved with travel on main highways, side streets, and rural roads during the transportation of children. Risk of exposure to communicable diseases. Must be able to lift 55 pounds, many times a day, climb into the school bus, bend, kneel, and squat frequently. Job requires standing for long periods of time, as well as stooping, squatting, running, and sitting in child-sized chairs and/or on the floor.
