Job OverviewPosition Summary

The Senior Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor and Pharmacy Manager in managing the daily operations of the pharmacy team. Key responsibilities include training new personnel, adjusting technician assignments, assisting with performance evaluations, and ensuring compliance with departmental standards. This position also encompasses performing all essential technician duties as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurate preparation and dispensing of patient medications, including sterile products, chemotherapy, unit doses, and narcotics.
  • Collaborates with Pharmacy Managers and Supervisors on medication-related and operational matters, including staffing adjustments.
  • Acts as a mentor and role model for pharmacy staff.
  • Facilitates the orientation and training of new team members.
  • Implements process improvements and safety initiatives.
  • Manages inventory, including conducting weekly counts and handling recalls.
  • Oversees compliance with Pharmacy One Source Simplify 797 and Isensix Monitoring.
  • Ensures completion of job competencies and clean room protocols.
  • Coordinates onboarding for students and new hires.
  • Provides on-call support as needed.

  • Maintains confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with training and organizational policies.
Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program is required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician 3 is required.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or community pharmacy setting is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of the metric system and basic mathematical concepts is required.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy computer systems and automated dispensing equipment is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively while considering the broader implications of decisions is essential.
  • Capable of addressing complex issues with innovative solutions.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) is required.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).
  • Occasional climbing and balancing.
  • Constant engagement in tasks requiring eye/hand coordination and communication.
