Summary: Under general supervision, the incumbent provides continuous assistance to both special and general education instructional staff in delivering effective services to students with special needs. This includes the creation of educational materials and the adjustment of existing curricula to accommodate diverse learning requirements, demonstration of teaching methodologies, and the implementation of classroom management techniques along with tailored behavioral interventions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Mentors individual educators and paraprofessionals (both regular and special education) who seek or need support in curriculum modification, instructional strategies, behavioral intervention development, and classroom environment adjustments.
  • Facilitates the operations of the school's special education support team to ensure that individualized education programs (IEPs) are appropriate and aligned with educational standards, including the provision of positive behavioral supports. Assists in the coordination of the identification, referral, and placement processes in accordance with district policies.
  • Delivers ongoing training to educators and school staff on special education policies, procedures, and best instructional practices.
  • Designs and conducts professional development sessions that enhance school personnel's knowledge, including district curricula, instructional strategies, assessments, and school improvement initiatives.
  • Actively engages in professional development opportunities provided by the district and/or professional organizations.
  • Consults with school principals and the director of special services on programs and services addressing complex issues, including parental concerns.
  • Performs additional duties as necessary.
Required Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Master's degree in Special Education or a related field;
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience;
  • Valid Arizona Department of Education Teacher Certificate.
Preferred Qualifications:

While not mandatory, the following qualifications are preferred:
  • Documented experience in special education consultation, staff training, and program development.

  • Ability to apply and interpret special education laws and regulations;
  • Capacity to identify training needs and implement professional development programs;

  • Foster cooperation, pride, and trust among colleagues;
  • Possess strong communication skills for effective interaction with supervisors, staff, and students.

While fulfilling the responsibilities of this role, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. The employee frequently stands and walks, and occasionally sits, uses hands for manipulation, reaches, climbs, or balances, and may lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision capabilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
