Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Construction Equipment Technician to oversee the maintenance and repair of machinery used in concrete paving operations. This role involves traveling with a paving crew to provide support in various tasks. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic work environment and be capable of managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Flexibility for night and weekend work is essential, along with per diem compensation when applicable.
Compensation
The base pay starts at $32 per hour, with prevailing wage rates ranging from $40 to $50 based on the specific job requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols in all daily activities.
- Accurately diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on the first attempt; identify necessary parts for repairs.
- Interpret schematics, diagrams, and blueprints to facilitate repairs and diagnostics.
- Diagnose intricate electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical problems.
- Remove, replace, and repair major components on various types of paving and heavy construction equipment.
- Conduct routine maintenance on heavy machinery.
- Perform on-site repairs in a fast-paced environment as required.
- Document and log work performed and parts utilized.
- Collaborate with equipment operators to evaluate machine performance.
- Be prepared for occasional weekend and night shifts.
- Travel as necessary.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned.
- Exhibit self-motivation, professionalism, and a willingness to work as part of a team.
- Compensation aligns with California wages and Davis Bacon rates when applicable.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, as well as random tests.
- Must successfully complete a Department of Defense background check (No Felonies).
- Report to the site superintendent or project manager when assigned to a job site.
- This is a full-time, permanent position.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience working on heavy equipment and commercial trucks is required.
- Experience with dump trucks and mixers is preferred.
- Must possess a safe driving record.
- Availability to work days, nights, or weekends is necessary.
- Must provide own tools.
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Five years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic (preferred).
- One year of experience as a Truck Mechanic (preferred).
- Basic welding skills, including stick and wire.
- Some computer skills, with basic knowledge of third-party CAT and similar programs.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic and electric over hydraulic systems.
- ASE Certification (preferred).
- CDL Certification (preferred).
- Must obtain a DOT health card (required).
