Job Summary

The Texas School for the Deaf is seeking a highly skilled Employment and Compensation Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the agency's recruitment, hiring, and compensation programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the agency's recruitment program, including developing and maintaining an online presence, networking with colleges, and participating in job fairs.
  • Administer the online application system, providing guidance to hiring managers and applicants.
  • Work with hiring managers to create job descriptions and postings.
  • Manage the hiring process, including conducting background checks, coordinating fingerprinting, and scheduling new employee orientations.
  • Provide training and guidance on applicant screening, interviewing, and selection processes.
  • Develop and recommend agency compensation strategies to support recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Work with hiring managers to recommend classifications and salaries for new hires.
  • Review and investigate salary discrepancies and discrimination complaints.
  • Conduct job classification audits and parity studies to ensure market competitiveness.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and providing customer service.
  • Ability to participate in sign language classes and reach an intermediate level of proficiency.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a degree in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in HR, preferably in a Texas State agency, university, or school district.
  • HR certification from HRCI or SHRM.
  • Experience evaluating job classifications and working in CAPPS.
