Job Overview

Position Summary: The Blood Collection Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate patient identification and specimen labeling in accordance with established protocols.

This role requires a comprehensive understanding of phlebotomy methods and practices to secure high-quality blood samples, which are critical for making informed decisions regarding specimen collection.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts, interprets, and reports point-of-care testing (such as glucose levels) and maintains quality control measures.
  • Manages laboratory and patient documentation in line with standard operating procedures, including printing, recording, distributing, faxing, filing, and retrieving reports.
  • Identifies issues, takes necessary actions, documents incidents and resolutions, and promptly informs the Supervisor to ensure patient care is not compromised.
  • Engages in effective communication throughout the shift and prioritizes requests in a professional and timely manner to facilitate smooth departmental operations.
  • Ensures timely follow-up on STAT, ASAP, and Pre-op draws to meet turnaround time expectations.
  • Performs additional tasks as required to support the department's objectives.
Qualifications:

Preferred additional certifications or training relevant to the specific work area include:

  • Emergency Department: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of employment.

Certification Requirement: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is essential.
