JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Conducts a range of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks for the Senior Center facilities.

Operates under the guidance of the Senior Citizens Administrator, Program Coordinator, and Center Coordinator.


Utilizes exceptional customer service abilities to foster and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, officials, and community members.

Drives a vehicle to support departmental operations and city functions.

Works with minimal supervision, primarily independently.

Must be able to collaborate effectively with team members when necessary.

Utilizes custodial tools and equipment as required.

Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.

Performs cleaning tasks including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, shampooing, steam cleaning, stripping, waxing, polishing, and buffing various surfaces.

Empties trash receptacles and replaces liners.


Sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies; addresses spills; cleans drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, and light fixtures.

Washes windows, walls, and both metal and wooden surfaces.

Picks up litter from the vicinity of buildings and grounds.


Executes minor semi-skilled interior maintenance and repairs, including painting, flooring, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical tasks, and other related work.

Inspects and maintains custodial equipment and small tools to ensure proper functionality.

Secures and unlocks facilities as required and sets alarms when necessary.

Keeps accurate records of completed tasks.

Maintains up-to-date knowledge of safe and effective building maintenance practices.

Reports any safety, sanitary, or fire hazards to supervisors.

Monitors custodial supply inventory and communicates needs to the supervisor.

Exhibits a friendly demeanor and responds effectively to the needs of senior patrons.

Regular attendance is a crucial aspect of this role.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Arranges and sets up furniture, artwork, etc., as needed, and prepares coffee and other refreshments as required.

Participates in various senior activities within the Senior Center or externally, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Program, which includes pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up testing.

Any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the work.

Familiarity with equipment, materials, and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance.

Knowledge of tools and supplies used for minor repairs.

Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record for the past three years or in the state of current residency.

Basic knowledge of first aid and applicable safety protocols.

Ability to work a flexible schedule.

Ability to work independently and complete daily tasks according to the work schedule.


Proficiency in operating listed tools and equipment, and the ability to use them safely and effectively.

Ability to communicate, comprehend, and follow both written and verbal instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and other city departments. Ability to interact effectively and courteously with the public.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Floor buffers, steam cleaners, carpet cleaners, washers, vacuum cleaners, mops, brooms, dusting tools, motor vehicle.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms.

The employee frequently stands, walks, and uses hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls.

The employee occasionally sits; climbs or balances; stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls; and communicates verbally or audibly.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, the ability to adjust focus, and the ability to stand for extended periods.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.

The employee may work in high or precarious locations and may be exposed to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and hazardous chemicals.

The employee may also face risks of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet during indoor night shift operations.
