Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Financial Advocate to join our team at Lifespan. As a key member of our patient financial services team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our patients receive the financial support they need to access quality healthcare.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and assist patients and family members who are uninsured or underinsured, and help them navigate the process of accessing financial resources and benefits.
  • Work closely with hospital staff to pre-admit and pre-register patients, and establish payment terms as needed.
  • Develop and maintain databases of available medical financial resources and benefits, and stay up-to-date on current trends in healthcare and human services.
  • Establish relationships with healthcare and human services organizations to benefit patients, family members, and the hospital.
  • Research patient accounts to identify potential alternative coverage options, and reactivate accounts when necessary.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly productivity reports and financial statistics as required.
Requirements
  • Two years of experience in a hospital environment, with involvement in third-party payer coverage.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with patients, family members, and hospital staff.
  • Knowledge of medical terms and conditions, as well as regulations concerning patient personal confidentiality (HIPAA).
  • Computer skills, including use of hospital systems and software.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Working conditions are generally good, with some exposure to the normal patient care environment.
