Position Title: Summer Camp Healthcare Coordinator

Department: Salvation Army, King's Lake Camp

Reports To: Divisional Youth & Candidates Secretary (DYCS)

Employment Status: Temporary, Full-time; Non-Exempt

Compensation: $500.00/Week

Role Overview: Oversee and implement a comprehensive health and safety program for the camp community. Support Camp Counselors in ensuring the health and welfare of campers. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by medical professionals while maintaining accurate records.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age with a valid driver's license and acceptable driving and criminal history reports.
  2. Active LPN, RN, or EMS/EMT license within the State of Alaska is preferred. Students in an accredited nursing program in Alaska are also welcome to apply.
  3. Current CPR and First Aid Certification is required.
  4. Experience in medication management is preferred.
  5. Prior experience as a Nurse working with children is advantageous.
  6. Room and Board will be provided as the Summer Camp Healthcare Coordinator must reside at the camp during sessions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct health history and immunization record intake and review medical histories during camper registration.
  2. Collaborate with staff to examine each camper upon arrival for lice, communicable diseases, and signs of abuse.
  3. Communicate documented food allergies/intolerances to the Summer Cook in writing.
  4. Inform Camp Counselors of any medical concerns regarding campers in writing.
  5. Administer medications to campers and staff daily as prescribed.
  6. Provide first aid and care for minor illnesses, advising on offsite treatment when necessary.
  7. Facilitate overnight care for ill or injured campers in the Nurse's Station.
  8. Notify parents of health-related incidents involving their child at camp via phone, letter, or email.
  9. Maintain accurate records of daily medical logs, camper medical histories, and incident reports.
  10. Secure the Nurse's Station when not in use, including locking both the building entrance and inner cabinet doors.
  11. Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of the Nurse's Station, including sanitizing, laundering bedding, and disposing of medical waste.
  12. Maintain an ongoing inventory of health and medical supplies, informing the DYCS of any needs.
  13. Stock and distribute first-aid kits to designated personnel.
  14. Actively engage in the spiritual development of campers and staff.
  15. Promote respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities among campers.
  16. Foster positive working relationships with all staff, volunteers, and campers.
  17. Ensure adherence to camp and Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  18. Provide supervision and ensure the physical and emotional safety of campers and staff.
  19. Maintain personal grooming and cleanliness in living quarters.
  20. Assist in the clean-up of the camp at the conclusion of sessions.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.

Protect the Mission: Completion of the online course for this area and passing the required Background Checks by The Salvation Army is mandatory for employment.

Driver Requirements: Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving history and complete The Salvation Army Driver Safety Course.

Work Environment: Regular exposure to varying weather conditions. Most duties are performed in a climate-controlled environment.

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to speak, sit, walk, stand, bend, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently; to grasp, reach, handle, finger, push, or pull objects.
  2. Ability to see and hear at normal ranges with corrective devices, if necessary.
  3. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., or more with assistance.
  4. Ability to operate a motor vehicle in various conditions.
