Job Summary

The Pharmacy Manager is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our long-term care pharmacy. This role requires a strong understanding of pharmacy operations, compliance, and quality assurance. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our pharmacy, including dispensing and input activities, while maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of pharmacy dispensing and input departments, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy intern students.
  • Develop and implement procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including compounding and dispensing of prescribed medications.
  • Monitor and audit controlled substances from receipt to delivery to prevent drug diversion.
  • Monitor and audit all dispensing and input activities to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Manage pharmacy expenses to maintain budget requirements.
  • Ensure pharmacy dispensing is conducted under a safe and efficient workflow.
  • Provide high-level customer service to all facilities serviced, working closely with care coordination teams to ensure superior service delivery.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and processes that promote safe, efficient, and cost-effective medication use, in compliance with state, federal, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Recommend process and policy improvements to ensure quality of patient care and to increase revenue.
  • Compile weekly, monthly, quarterly reports, and develop and maintain KPIs, including compliance metrics and root cause analysis.
  • Prepare and coordinate dispensing pharmacist and pharmacy technician schedules to ensure proper staffing coverage.
  • Serve as an active member of the Pharmacy Compliance Committee and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
Requirements
  • Education: Doctor of Pharmacy degree or equivalent from an accredited College of Pharmacy.
  • Experience: Five to ten years of progressive management experience in a long-term care pharmacy, preferably in a leadership role.
  • License/Certification: Active Tennessee Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist license, with willingness to obtain other state licenses as needed.
