Position Overview:
The Ophthalmic Surgical Assistant at PRISM Vision Group will play a vital role in supporting the surgeon during various surgical and invasive procedures. This position ensures that the surgical suite is thoroughly prepared with all necessary tools, instruments, and supplies. Please note that this role operates during the day shift, with no on-call responsibilities, weekends, or major holiday commitments.

Key Responsibilities:
Availability to work every Monday, transitioning to every Friday thereafter.
Ensure cleanliness of all surfaces prior to the commencement of the first procedure of the day.

Efficiently prepare the surgical suite with all required instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment tailored for each specific procedure.

Organize the room promptly to facilitate timely starts.
Conduct pre-operative checks on all equipment to confirm functionality.
Maintain a sterile and orderly back table to enhance efficiency, adhering to physician preferences for setup.
Assist in the positioning, preparation, and draping of patients for surgical interventions.
Provide patients with clear explanations and verbal reassurance as needed.
Anticipate the surgeon's needs during the intraoperative phase and adapt to any changes during the procedure.

Uphold aseptic techniques throughout the surgical process, ensuring a safe environment for both the patient and the surgical team.

Demonstrate proficiency and care in handling specimens.

Take responsibility for the care of surgical instruments, following established protocols for transport from the operating room to the decontamination area.

Clean and prepare the surgical suite between procedures and after the final case of the day.
Restock supplies and equipment as necessary.

Pre-select all supplies and instruments for the day's cases in advance to guarantee availability.

Understand sterilization procedures and articulate methods for validating sterility.
Exhibit knowledge and skills necessary for functioning in sterile processing, including cleaning, wrapping, and sterilizing instruments.
Comply with all center policies and procedures.
Maintain awareness of Privacy Practices and Patient Bill of Rights.
Stay informed about Infection Control and OSHA standards of practice.
Perform additional duties as assigned, including inventory management, expiration checks, validation, and stocking.

Additional Job Functions:
Capable of executing any reasonable work request that aligns with qualifications but is not explicitly detailed.

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses:
Must be available to work Mondays, with potential for Friday shifts.
Detail-oriented and well-organized to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Prior experience in Surgical Technology is required.
Experience in scrubbing for ophthalmology cataract and glaucoma procedures is essential; familiarity with cornea and retina procedures is preferred.
Current certification as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.
BLS Certification is mandatory.
Experience in sterile processing is advantageous.
