The State of Vermont is in search of an innovative financial executive who will be a key member of the department's Executive Leadership Team. This individual will be instrumental in guiding strategic decision-making, resource allocation, and establishing the overall financial direction while ensuring the department's fiscal health.

A successful candidate will demonstrate a history of effective collaboration, comprehensive budget creation and oversight, financial analysis, risk assessment, and a leadership approach that is both dynamic and forward-thinking.

Eligibility Criteria

This position, Financial Director IV, is available to all State employees and external candidates.

Applications must be submitted online to be considered.

Work is primarily conducted in a conventional office environment, though some travel may be necessary. The role may require extended hours beyond the standard work schedule. The incumbent will be expected to participate in public meetings and hearings, as well as provide testimony before legislative bodies. A wide range of perspectives and emotions can be anticipated, necessitating a diplomatic and tactful approach.

Required Qualifications

A Master's degree in accounting, business, public administration, or a related field AND four (4) years of professional experience in accounting, budgeting, fiscal auditing, fiscal analysis, or federal program fiscal administration, including management of a significant fiscal program or operation.

OR

A Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related discipline with at least 20 credit hours in accounting and seven (7) years of professional experience in accounting, budgeting, fiscal auditing, fiscal analysis, or federal program fiscal administration, which has included management of a significant fiscal program or operation.

OR

A minimum of three (3) years as a Financial Director III with the State of Vermont.

Special Considerations

1) Experience with the VISION system (the State of Vermont's PeopleSoft financial management system) may be required for certain positions. 2) Preference may be given to candidates with experience managing large-scale fiscal operations. 3) For some roles, preference may be given to candidates holding a Master's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field. 4) Candidates with a CPA or similar certification may receive preference for certain positions.
