Summary:
The Facility Maintenance Specialist is tasked with ensuring the cleanliness, upkeep, and safety of the parish facilities and grounds. This role necessitates a basic understanding of minor repair tasks and a commitment to maintaining a tidy, safe, and organized environment.

This position carries decision-making responsibilities within essential job functions, aligned with organizational policies and guidelines.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform daily cleaning and organization of the church Sanctuary and other buildings, including restocking restrooms, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and general custodial duties according to established schedules.
  • Conduct light maintenance work, utilizing basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry skills as needed.
  • Read and interpret basic diagrams for setting up meeting rooms and outdoor areas, which involves moving furniture as required for events.
  • Maintain grounds by operating lawn mowers, string trimmers, and leaf blowers, along with manual tasks such as raking and weeding to keep the campus tidy.
  • Ensure timely collection and disposal of trash, including debris and tree limbs observed across the campus.
  • Monitor inventory levels of supplies for all facilities, reporting shortages to the Facilities Manager and ensuring all areas are adequately stocked.
  • Verify that heating and air conditioning systems are functioning properly, reporting any irregularities to the Facilities Manager promptly. Attention to detail is crucial in identifying and reporting other facility-related issues.
  • Secure buildings when not in use and activate security systems at closing. Maintain the security of issued keys and security equipment.

Qualifications:
  • Adhere to the religious standards, policies, and procedures of the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive matters.
  • Demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with other parish staff members and communicate with the parish community.
  • Possess strong communication skills to interact with various levels of staff, ministry leaders, parishioners, and vendors.
  • Ability to work within a team environment, promoting a positive workplace atmosphere.
  • Punctuality and reliability are essential for the efficient operation of the custodial and maintenance program.
  • Availability to work weekends and holidays as required, along with early mornings and late evenings based on scheduling needs.
  • Complete a 90-day evaluation and probationary period.
  • Meet all employment requirements set by the Archdiocese.
  • Provide proof of a valid driver's license and insurance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in custodial or building maintenance roles.
  • Fluency in Spanish is advantageous but not mandatory.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and occasionally climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the environment is moderate, and familiarity with personal protective equipment and its proper usage is expected.
