Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Nurse Practitioner to join our team. As a Nurse Practitioner, you will play a critical role in providing medical services to our clients, including prescribing medication and conducting physical examinations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct admissions physicals, obtain informed consent, and evaluate clients
  • Diagnose and treat clients with substance use disorders
  • Perform complete physical examinations of clients and prescribe medications as needed
  • Order lab and diagnostic tests, including radiologic tests
  • Collaborate with staff to evaluate ongoing medication needs and ensure clients are aware of the dangers and benefits of medication management
  • Document all physical findings and notes on progress in clients' files
  • Monitor clients' response to treatment and medication dosage
  • Provide input into the treatment planning process and collaborate with the counseling team to develop written documents outlining treatment goals, action steps, and methods for monitoring and evaluating progress
  • Establish a helping relationship with clients characterized by warmth, respect, genuineness, concreteness, and empathy
  • Facilitate clients' engagement in the treatment and recovery process
  • Promote clients' knowledge, skills, and attitudes that contribute to positive change in substance use behaviors
  • Encourage and reinforce clients' actions determined to be beneficial in progressing toward treatment goals
  • Work appropriately with clients to recognize and discourage behaviors inconsistent with progress toward treatment goals
  • Adapt counseling strategies to individual clients' characteristics, including disability, gender, sexual orientation, developmental level, culture, ethnicity, age, and health status
  • Makes constructive therapeutic responses when clients' behavior is inconsistent with stated recovery goals
  • Contributes as part of the multidisciplinary team
  • Applies confidentiality rules and regulations appropriately
  • Demonstrates respect and non-judgmental attitudes toward clients in all contacts with community professionals and agencies
  • Exchanges relevant information with the agency or professional to whom the referral is being made in a manner consistent with confidentiality rules and regulations and generally accepted professional standards of care
  • Completes all documentation according to policy, which is legible, and reflects client participation in treatment
  • Ensures that all reports and/or documents requested by management are accurate and timely
  • Ensures efficient programming occurs through volunteering coverage as needed
  • Anticipates the needs of clients and the program to ensure effective programming
  • May participate in the Continuing Quality Improvement Program
  • Adheres to all confidentiality laws as applied to substance use
  • Adheres to the professional code of ethics of the agency and the Nursing board
  • Demonstrates awareness of and competency in cultural diversity
Requirements
  • Completion of a graduate nursing program
  • Advanced Nursing License (active)
  • 3+ years of experience as a nurse practitioner, preferably in working with opiate addicted clients
  • If authorized to prescribe CDS, must have a joint protocol with collaborating physician which explicitly addresses whether they must consult with the collaborating physician prior to prescribing or ordering controlled substances
  • If prescribing CDS, must complete a course with 6 hours related to controlled substance prescribing and must have a New Jersey CDS, DEA number and NPI
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills, able to multi-task
  • Able to communicate effectively (both written and oral skills)
  • Able to work independently and under pressure

Work Schedule

This Nurse Practitioner position is for Monday - Friday, 5:30am - 9:30am.
