We are an opioid treatment center that has been serving Northern New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York for over 36 years. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A NURSE PRACTITIONER
As a Nurse Practitioner, you have a critical role within our organization. You provide medical services directly to the clients in the program. This includes prescribing methadone. This position is also responsible for maintaining the appropriate records and medical files as per state, federal and agency regulations. This includes performing intake physicals, annual physicals, and reviewing urine and blood test results, ensuring that established procedures are followed and clinical standards that are set for the delivery of medical services are met. Significant creativity and innovation are necessary so that clients are successfully engaged, motivated, and supported in their efforts to achieve treatment plan objectives. Collaboration and coordination with both internal and external resources are crucial to successful client outcomes.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct admissions physicals, obtain informed consent, and evaluate the client
- Diagnose and treat
- Perform complete physical examinations of clients, and to prescribe medications
- Order lab and diagnostic tests including radiologic
- Prescribe and order medications
- Perform initial procedures within our scope of practice
- Collaborates with staff to evaluate ongoing medication needs
- Reviews the medication needs of the client
- Ensures that the client is aware of the dangers as well as the benefits of medication management
- Documents all physical findings and notes on progress in the clients' files
- Monitor's client response to treatment and medication dosage
- Provide input into the treatment planning process - collaborate with counseling team to develop written document to identify treatment goals, action steps towards achieving those goals, and method for monitoring and evaluating progress
- Establishes a helping relationship with the client characterized by warmth, respect, genuineness, concreteness, and empathy
- Facilitates the client's engagement in the treatment and recovery process
- Promotes client's knowledge, skills, and attitudes that contribute to a positive change in substance use behaviors
- Encourages and reinforces client actions determined to be beneficial in progressing toward treatment goals
- Works appropriately with client to recognize and discourage all behaviors inconsistent with progress toward treatment goals
- Adapts counseling strategies to the individual characteristics of the client, including but not limited to disability, gender, sexual orientation, developmental level, culture, ethnicity, age, and health status
- Makes constructive therapeutic responses when the client's behavior is inconsistent with stated recovery goals
- Contributes as part of the multidisciplinary team
- Applies confidentiality rules and regulations appropriately
- Demonstrates respect and non-judgmental attitudes toward clients in all contacts with community professionals and agencies
- Exchanges relevant information with the agency or professional to whom the referral is being made in a manner consistent with confidentiality rules and regulations and generally accepted professional standards of care
- Completes all documentation according to policy, which is legible, and reflects client participation in treatment
- Ensures that all reports and/or documents requested by management are accurate and timely
- Ensures efficient programming occurs through volunteering coverage as needed
- Anticipates the needs of the clients and the program to ensure effective programming
- May participate in the Continuing Quality Improvement Program
- Adheres to all confidentiality laws as applied to substance use
- Adheres to the professional code of ethics of the agency and the Nursing board
- Demonstrates awareness of and competency in cultural diversity
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A NURSE PRACTITIONER
- Completion of a graduate nursing program
- Advanced Nursing License (active)
- 3+ years of experience as a nurse practitioner, preferably in working with opiate addicted clients
- If authorized to prescribe CDS, must have a joint protocol with collaborating physician which explicitly addresses whether they must consult with the collaborating physician prior to prescribing or ordering controlled substances
- If prescribing CDS, must complete a course with 6 hours related to controlled substance prescribing and must have a New Jersey CDS, DEA number and NPI
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills, able to multi-task

WORK SCHEDULE
This Nurse Practitioner position is for Monday - Friday, 5:30am - 9:30am.
