Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Charge Nurses, Nursing Leadership, and Medical Assistant Leads to develop and implement training plans for the Medical Assistant team.
  • Consistently adhere to and model FHCSD Policies and Procedures to ensure positive patient outcomes.
  • Oversee the Medical Assistant schedule and performance metrics.
  • Supervise the workflow of the Medical Assistant team and delegate tasks.
  • Participate in teaching and training of Medical Assistants, acting as a resource to other healthcare personnel.
  • Assist the Charge Nurse in ensuring quality standards are met consistently.
  • Collaborate with Charge Nurses and clinic operations leadership to develop action plans to improve performance metrics as needed.
  • Monitor staff performance to ensure regulatory standards are maintained.
  • Ensure Medical Assistants operate within their scope of practice.
  • Ensure the completion of new Medical Assistants' 90-day competency assessment.
  • Monitor staff performance to ensure Vaccine Storage and Handling standards are always maintained.
  • Monitor staff performance to ensure clinic audit standards are always maintained.
  • Participate actively in nursing staff meetings and huddles.
  • Ensure ongoing training of AIDET, SOC, and best practices is provided throughout the department.
  • Apply and coach the team on 5S and continuous improvement methods in the workplace.
  • Monitor and review the team's MA performance report.
  • Complete orientation and annual focal performance reviews of Medical Assistants under their charge.
  • Review patient care processes with the interdisciplinary team for quality care.
  • Promote teamwork and strong communication between various service lines.
  • Ensure sites comply with TJC, DH, CHDP, and Medi-Cal Managed Care requirements.
  • Attend nursing in-services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant diploma from an approved course required.
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the skills, knowledge, and ability to perform the essential job duties, and which meets any required state or federal certification requirements.
  • Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, or Advance Resuscitation Training required.
  • Ability and means to travel as needed in a timely manner within San Diego County, to locations that may have limited access to public transportation; proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required.

Experience/Specialized Skills (including Language)

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as Medical Assistant required.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and be a resource to Medical Assistants and Medical Assistant Leadership teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to show flexibility, ensure accuracy, and meet changing priorities in a fast-paced, high-workload environment.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain good working relationships with employees, coworkers, and departments.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong motivation to act as a resource to new Medical Assistants.

If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors - we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
