Sterile Processing Specialist

As a Sterile Processing Tech at Advocate Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by preparing and sterilizing medical instruments. This is a challenging and rewarding position that requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Examine surgical instrumentation for cleanliness, proper assembly, and performance
• Assemble instrument sets, ensuring the correct number and type of instruments are present
• Check instrument performance and identify repair needs
• Act as a resource on instrument identification, use, location, and availability
Leadership Behaviors
• Assist with adjusting daily work assignments to compensate for fluctuations in workflow
• Observe activities throughout the shift to ensure established procedures are being followed for quality control
• Monitor activities in CPD, including weekends and holidays, to ensure an effective and efficient operation
• Notify manager of any problems that occur during the shift
• Communicate ideas for revising policy and/or procedure
Decontamination and Quality Improvement
• Demonstrate independent function in ensuring soiled instrumentation is decontaminated to prevent cross-contamination
• Wear proper protective attire when performing decontamination
• Follow established procedures to ensure decontamination completion and correctness
• Set up decontamination equipment for operation and ensure proper function and continuous workflow
• Maintain a neat and clean work area at all times
Requirements
• High school diploma
• 2 years of CPD experience
• Ability to communicate and follow directions
• Computer skills
• Experienced in operating sterilization equipment
• Registered Central Service Tech
Working Conditions
• Exposure to ETO
• Exposure to blood/body fluids
• Heavy lifting (30-40lbs)
• Hepatitis vaccination at hire
• Ability to respond quickly to emergent situations
• Strength/dexterity to handle surgical instruments/equipment
• Ability to access all areas of the department
