Position Overview:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is in search of a skilled Manager of Investment Operations to enhance our Investments Department. This role is pivotal in overseeing a team dedicated to executing investment operations for the VRS fund. The successful candidate will be responsible for orchestrating and managing the middle and back-office functions associated with both public assets and alternative investments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the integrity of investment operations by ensuring that all securities and transactions are accurately documented within our internal systems.
- Lead the design, implementation, and management of operational processes.
- Collaborate with investment teams to understand their requirements for new investment strategies.
- Act as the primary liaison for service providers to facilitate operational needs and address any arising issues.
- Handle escalated matters concerning trading operations, collateral management, and periodic reporting.
- Establish metrics to ensure the accurate completion of tasks and the delivery of exceptional service to investment teams.
- Assist in the setup of new portfolios within internal systems and coordinate necessary systems testing.
- Maintain comprehensive written policies and procedures for the Operations team.
- Provide leadership and serve as a role model for direct reports and staff.
- Deliver timely feedback through coaching and mentorship.
- Recruit and nurture new talent.
- Collaborate with the Chief Administrative Officer on strategic planning for the Operations unit.
- Engage in special projects and prepare reports as requested by the Chief Administrative Officer and investment teams.
Minimum Qualifications:
A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred. Additionally, candidates should possess:
- Significant experience in Investment Operations, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, particularly in a leadership capacity.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and automated financial management systems.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, along with project management expertise.
- A process-oriented mindset with a keen interest in resolving complex challenges.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across various investment and support groups.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence.
- A solid foundation in finance, accounting, and investment management.
Additional Considerations:
- 10 or more years of management experience in Investment Operations or a related Accounting/Finance role.
- A Master's degree in business administration or another relevant advanced degree and/or professional designation is advantageous.
Special Instructions:
This position follows a hybrid work model, currently requiring two days onsite and three days remote. Future adjustments to this arrangement will require three days onsite and two days remote.
