Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Investment Accountant to join our team. As an Investment Accountant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial information for the pension trust fund.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process investment instructions in a timely manner, ensuring that capital contributions, cash transfers, and asset reallocations are accurately recorded.
  • Perform financial analysis for assigned limited partnerships on a quarterly basis, providing summary financial information to the master custodian and verifying management fees.
  • Process payment of investment management fees, verifying that invoices received from investment managers are in agreement with the investment management fee contract.
  • Ensure December quarter fee calculations for limited partnerships are sent to the Investment Department for review and approval.
  • Perform assigned analysis and reconciliation of assets, liabilities, income, and expenses reported by BNY Mellon, and prepare assigned monthly schedules to ensure accuracy and reliability of financial information.
  • Process capital calls, cash transfers, new account setups, and miscellaneous direction letters.
  • Follow up with investment managers and BNY Mellon as necessary to resolve any issues that arise.
  • Provide support in the daily operations for the investments of the pension trust fund.
  • Prepare assigned schedules and analysis for the compilation of financial information for the ACFR during the year-end process.
  • Prepare documentation for 1099s for the calendar year and maintain electronic files to track amounts to report.
  • Effectively work with all levels of management and staff to improve processes and procedures.
  • Perform special accounting tasks and other projects as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting.
  • Two years of accounting experience, preferably in the financial services industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong data analysis and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritize, meet deadlines, manage multiple assignments simultaneously, and resolve complex issues.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office products, particularly in Excel and Word applications, online general ledger accounting systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Public Accountant licensure.
Work Environment

The selected candidate must be able to work in the office any day of the week as required by the manager. This position has a hybrid work schedule, with two days in the office and three days working remotely.
