Job Summary

The New York Power Authority is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer II to provide electrical engineering support to all generating plant and transmission substations throughout the State of New York.

This role involves providing lead engineer function in support of a wide range of electrical equipment design modification projects, equipment applications and failure research, engineering studies, and operations and maintenance activities.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of commercial and industrial facilities and their various electrical systems and components, as well as the ability to apply diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to solve complex engineering problems.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university, and a minimum of 6 years of work-related experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide lead engineer function in support of electrical equipment design modification projects, equipment applications and failure research, engineering studies, and operations and maintenance activities.
  • Perform inspections and evaluations of existing conditions for various electrical equipment and systems for proper installation, problem identification and trouble shooting, or improvements.
  • Provide direction and review for the electrical design and drafting personnel in the development of project drawings.
  • Review work, including designs and specifications, produced by other engineers.
  • Provide office and field engineering support and oversight during construction or outage activities.
  • Ensure deadlines are met as assigned by supervisors.
  • Assist the supervisor in the coordination of work with other disciplines and departments for the successful development and execution of the project.
  • Perform inspections and evaluations on vendor products to ensure engineering requirements and Authority needs are satisfied.
  • Gather information (site, vendors and other engineers) for engineering tasks.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 6 years of work-related experience.
  • Qualifications to sit for Part I and/or Part II of the PE exam preferred.
  • Experience with NYPA policies and business practices preferred.

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $110,000 - $152,000. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
