About the Role:
The Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is seeking a visionary leader to serve as the inaugural Chair of the Department of Biomedical and Translational Sciences. As a key member of the university's health sciences center, the Chair will play a critical role in shaping the department's strategic direction and driving innovation in education, research, and discovery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Department of Biomedical and Translational Sciences, aligning with the university's overall mission and goals.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive plan to advance the department's research, education, and service initiatives, with a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and translational research.
- Build and lead a diverse team of faculty, staff, and trainees, fostering a culture of excellence, inclusivity, and professionalism.
- Oversee the department's academic programs, including curriculum development, accreditation, and assessment.
- Manage the department's budget, resources, and operations, ensuring fiscal stability and growth.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with industry, government, and other stakeholders to advance the department's research and education initiatives.
- Represent the department and the university in various forums, promoting the institution's reputation and advancing its interests.
Requirements:
- PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent from an accredited institution in biomedical sciences and/or related field.
- Eligibility for a faculty appointment at the Professor level in the Macon and Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University.
- Proven track record of leadership, research, and academic excellence, with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and management skills, with the ability to build and lead a high-performing team.
