About Us
The Winston Prouty Center for Child and Family Development is dedicated to fostering inclusive educational experiences that empower children and their families. Our 5-STAR Early Learning Center (ELC) is designed to accommodate 58 children ranging from 6 weeks to 5 years of age.
Program Philosophy
Our ELC adopts an inclusive framework inspired by renowned educational philosophies such as Reggio Emilia, Magda Gerber/Emmi Pickler/RIE, Early MTSS, CSEFEL Pyramid Model, and Brazelton Touchpoints. We strive to create an environment that embodies joy, reflection, respect, responsiveness, and relationship-based early care and education.
Role Expansion
This year, we are excited to enhance our early learning offerings by introducing an Older Toddler/Young Preschool classroom. Each classroom is supported by a dedicated three-member teaching team, which includes:
- 1 full-time Lead Teacher
- 1 full-time Assistant Teacher
- 1 part-time Afternoon Teacher
Work Schedule
Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute a Reggio-inspired emergent curriculum that nurtures children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth.
- Offer developmentally appropriate guidance that fosters self-control, self-esteem, and respectful relationships among children.
- Create and sustain a learning environment that encourages safe and independent exploration.
- Build strong relationships with families and promote their involvement in the educational process.
- Guide and mentor Assistant Teachers in implementing the program's philosophy and practices.
- Maintain effective communication and collegial relationships with colleagues, supervisors, families, and the broader community.
Curriculum Development and Assessment
- Plan and implement a Reggio-inspired emergent curriculum that is inclusive of all children, including those with unique developmental or physical needs.
- Conduct regular observations and documentation to understand children's interests and needs, aiding in curriculum planning and individual assessments.
- Implement Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP) and Individualized Education Programs (IEP) within the classroom, ensuring adaptations for an inclusive environment.
- Curate and maintain an aesthetically pleasing classroom that reflects the children and the community.
- Manage the procurement of materials and supplies necessary for the program.
Family Engagement and Communication
- Establish consistent and effective communication with families to keep them informed about center activities and facilitate smooth transitions for children.
- Conduct home visits with families at least once annually.
- Encourage parental involvement in the program through meetings, social events, and volunteer opportunities.
- Orient new parents to the classroom and program structure.
- Provide regular written updates to families, including letters, daily reports, and newsletters.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
- Minimum of one year of experience working with young children.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Reggio Emilia, Emergent Curriculum, Waldorf, Montessori, or RIE approaches is highly desirable. A commitment to learning and growing within these educational philosophies is essential.
