Basketball Coach Position

Job Summary:

Norfolk Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Basketball Coach to lead our Varsity Girls Basketball team. As a key member of our athletic department, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive coaching plan that promotes the physical, emotional, and social growth of our student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement a Coaching Plan: Create a comprehensive coaching plan that aligns with the school's athletic department goals and objectives.
  • Recruit and Retain Athletes: Recruit and retain talented student-athletes who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in basketball and academic achievement.
  • Conduct Pre-Season Meetings: Conduct pre-season meetings with prospective athletes and parents to issue eligibility forms, explain VHSL requirements for participation, NCAA eligibility, and letter requirements for athletes.
  • Establish a Positive Team Culture: Foster a positive team culture that promotes good sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for opponents, officials, and teammates.
  • Develop and Implement a Strength and Conditioning Program: Develop and implement a strength and conditioning program that prepares student-athletes for competition and promotes overall fitness and well-being.
  • Communicate with Parents and Guardians: Communicate effectively with parents and guardians to keep them informed about their child's progress, academic and athletic.
  • Collaborate with School Administrators: Collaborate with school administrators, athletic directors, and other coaches to ensure a cohesive and supportive athletic department.
  • Attend Professional Development Opportunities: Attend professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in coaching and athletic administration.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Maintain accurate records of student-athlete progress, attendance, and academic achievement.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification: Current CPR/First Aid certification is required.
  • VHSL Coaches Education Certificate: A VHSL Coaches Education certificate is required.
  • Coaching Experience: A minimum of 2 years of coaching experience is preferred.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills are required to effectively communicate with student-athletes, parents, and school administrators.
