Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled Senior Estimator to contribute to our operations.

Your responsibilities will include the preparation, development, and coordination of comprehensive estimates for intricate projects and services within the specialty trade sector, particularly in areas such as Industrial Painting and Coating, Scaffolding, Mechanical Insulation, Insulated Metal Roofing/Siding, Refractory, and Heat Trace.

You will develop, produce, and uphold production units in accordance with industry standards.


As part of the Estimating Team, you will collaborate with Clients, Engineers, Project Managers, and other stakeholders on a diverse array of projects.

You will report directly to the Estimating Division Manager, with opportunities for travel to Bid Walks, Projects, and Company Events.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist the Estimating Division Manager with project proposals as needed.

- Analyze and assess project plans, specifications, scope, challenges, and other requirements to prepare job cost estimates and compile bid packages.

- Prepare conceptual estimates and budgets.

- Conduct accurate and detailed quantity take-offs and unit pricing using established company production rates.

- Provide value engineering as required.

- Upon completion of quantity surveys, establish profit and overhead for projects if requested.

- Produce and submit deliverables as specified by clients in their RFP Packages.

- Utilize the Request for Information (RFI) process when information is insufficient (document appropriately).


- Review solicited quotes to ensure consistency in pricing, identify scope gaps, and ensure proposals align with company interests.

Notify the Estimating Division Manager of any inaccuracies or omissions in plans and specifications.

- Maintain comprehensive records of all correspondence and notes related to the project being bid (log all bid documents).

- Review and evaluate all quotes to ensure compliance with project standards and specifications.

- Communicate effectively with Customers, owners, vendors, and trades.

- Secure vendor pricing and select vendors and subcontractors based on cost-effectiveness for each project.

- Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to ensure complete coverage of scope in the most economical manner.

- Respond promptly to any vendor or subcontractor inquiries; resolve issues thoroughly and immediately.

- Obtain written documentation on vendor and subcontractor quotes.

- Demonstrate proficiency in project principles, policies, and procedures and apply them throughout the work process.

- Participate in (and may lead) weekly planning meetings with estimating staff.

- Assist Project Managers with Buyouts on projects.

- Support Project Managers with purchasing and any change orders on estimated projects as requested.

- Ensure Quality Assurance/Quality Checks are consistently implemented.

- Participate in job close-out and review processes.

- Attend pre-job meetings and all estimating meetings.

- Participate in project job walks as assigned.

- Be available on bid days to assist in the collection and review of incoming quotes.

- Emphasize Communication, Documentation, and Organization.

Qualifications


- 3-4 years of formal experience in estimating industrial and commercial construction projects or experience in planning or managing engineering design or construction, or overseeing large engineering projects.


- Professional education and/or experience in construction and/or relevant industries.

- Comprehensive understanding of estimating and/or construction management.

- Significant experience in the design/construction field, particularly in industrial and commercial construction.

- Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.

- Strong math and organizational skills.

- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication abilities.

- Openness to learning new skills and concepts.

- Proficiency with Microsoft applications (i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) and a capacity to quickly learn new software.

- Valid Driver's license, insurance, and reliable transportation.

Desired Qualifications

- 5 years of experience in construction and estimating preferred.

- Degree or certification in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred.
