About the Role
This position is available within FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. The Compliance team operates within IT Transmission Systems & Compliance, focusing on the development, ongoing sustainability, and program consistency for NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), Sarbanes-Oxley Information Technology General Controls (SOx ITGCs), FERC, and other compliance initiatives to fulfill regulatory obligations and mitigate risks to the organization.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in data analysis and problem-solving, possess a strong understanding of business processes, and have a solid foundation in Compliance (e.g., CIP, FERC, SOx). The successful applicant will be adept at creating and adhering to detailed work plans while coordinating efforts across various business units to meet compliance timelines. Exceptional writing skills are crucial for documenting compliance evidence.
This role reports to the Manager of CIP Compliance Program & Reliability Standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure adherence to the North American Reliability Corporation (NERC) CIP Standards by providing guidance to support the business unit's risk management, Cyber, Information, Physical, and Personnel Security programs.
- Maintain compliance policies, programs, procedures, and guidelines related to NERC CIP Standards.
- Support testing efforts for Regulatory Access Authorization Database (RAAD) releases, including researching potential issues with integrated systems.
- Utilize FirstEnergy technology (e.g., RAAD, Contractor Information Management System (CIMS), QlikView, Sensitive Data Tracking) to analyze data and monitor compliance efforts.
- Conduct quarterly access reconciliation, security awareness, and separation processes, creating documentation to support these activities.
- Manage the CIP Policies, Programs, and Procedures SharePoint content as necessary.
- Investigate and document root cause analyses of issues to identify potential non-compliance and ensure timely remediation.
- Employ strong technical skills and knowledge of IT Systems.
Qualifications:
- 2-4 years of relevant work experience, with a background in IT or Compliance (e.g., CIP, SOx, FERC).
- Strong data analytics and exception reporting skills for compliance assessment.
- Proficiency in analytical tools such as QlikView and Excel.
- Excellent communication skills for effectively documenting findings in both written and oral formats.
- Ability to write at a professional and technical level to ensure a consistent understanding of the subject matter.
- Capability to think technically, research, analyze, and document compliance findings.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience with IT general controls, including change management and Cyber Security policies.
- Experience in developing, implementing, and auditing controls to meet NERC CIP Requirements.
- Experience preparing evidence for audits.
- Collaborate with business units to address compliance issues, recommending process improvements and remediation plans.
- Prepare for and support compliance audits conducted by internal resources or regulatory organizations.
- Coordinate compliance self-certification activities.
- Lead projects across multiple business units to implement cohesive compliance programs.
- Conduct evidence peer reviews and mentor team members.
