About the Role

The Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) is seeking a skilled Facility Maintenance Technician to join our team. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repairs services to various systems at the BJCC.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilities Maintenance: Perform preventative, diagnostic, and corrective maintenance of facilities through a computer maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Electrical Knowledge: Demonstrate a working knowledge of all tools of the trade, including electrical systems, lighting fixtures, outlets, switches, and other general electrical functions.
  • Plumbing and HVAC: Perform routine maintenance on plumbing repairs, including unstopping plugged drains, water leaks, faucets, and facility piping inspections.
  • Maintenance of Kitchen Equipment: Maintain and repair kitchen equipment, including ice machines, coolers, and freezers.
  • General Maintenance: Perform general maintenance tasks, including repairing doors, locks, drywall, ceiling tiles, and other facility-related components.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Demonstrate an ability to work effectively as a team member, address issues and complaints, and provide good internal and external customer service.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Minimum of three (3) years' experience as a Facility Maintenance Repair Technician or a similar position. High school diploma or G.E.D. Trade or technical school training in a related discipline is preferred.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Valid State of Alabama Driver License. HVAC or similar certifications are preferred.
  • Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in maintenance and repairs. Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, operational manuals, and equipment service manuals.
Work Environment

This position may have a moderate to extensive stress level associated with dealing with crowds of public visitors. Must be able to work under pressure for extended periods of time. The environment is mainly indoors, however, the position may be required to work outdoors and exposed to the elements (heat, rain, etc.).

Physical Demands

Position requires lifting, climbing, carrying, bending, stooping, squatting, and kneeling for extended periods of time. Extensive walking and/or standing. Ability to lift up to 50-pound items with or without assistance, while maintaining good balance.
