Position Overview:

ROLE OBJECTIVE
As a Clinical Specialist or PFT Therapist, you will be a credentialed respiratory therapist actively engaged in your specialized field. Senior Respiratory Therapists are expected to achieve further credentialing relevant to their expertise, including but not limited to:
CPFT,
RPFT,
FCC course, neonatal/Pediatric specialty, NRP, etc. Senior Respiratory Therapists are accountable for executing various therapeutic and advanced practice procedures specific to their unit.

In this role, you will provide professional guidance, representing the respiratory care department in daily operations and participating in unit-specific meetings and clinical workgroups.

You will also be involved in the orientation of new staff and training programs for students.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Must be a graduate of a two-year accredited Respiratory Therapist program and registry eligible. A Bachelor's degree is preferred. You must maintain a current RRT credential and a valid State of Michigan License in Respiratory Care.

Must possess (or more) of the following credentials:
NPS/NRP

CPFT

RPFT

FCC

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED


Exhibit strong interpersonal skills necessary for effective communication with patients, physicians, and other healthcare personnel, aligning with our mission and values.

Utilize analytical skills to assess patient needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide professional leadership in patient care delivery. Employ "AIDET" principles when interacting with every patient throughout the organization. (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You).

When appropriate, utilize the concept of "Managing Up" during patient interactions to present information, individuals, or teams positively.

Ensure a consistent experience for patients, families, visitors, and internal customers by using "Key Words at Key Times" to enhance understanding of care processes.

Act as a consultant, resource, and role model for respiratory care within health system committees or workgroups as necessary.

Uphold confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and maintain safe respiratory therapy practices, reporting any safety concerns to management.

Perform all duties and responsibilities of a Respiratory Therapist as per AARC guidelines, ensuring competencies are maintained per RT II orientation, including:

Cardiopulmonary arrest situations

Other emergency scenarios

Participate in patient rounds, ensuring treatments, therapies, and diagnostic testing are conducted per physician orders and approved medical protocols.

Verify that equipment is in safe operating condition and coordinate with repair personnel or Charge therapists as needed.


Based on clinical assessments, recommend modifications in therapies to medical staff to enhance cardiopulmonary patient care.

Demonstrate knowledge of procedures for oxygen and medical air shutdown.

Stay informed on hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

Prioritize and manage conflicting requests for respiratory care services.


Deliver high-quality patient care that considers age-specific, developmental, and cultural needs through proficient practice and application of the respiratory care process.


Demonstrated competencies include:
Pulmonary Function Testing or "PFT's"

Metabolic studies

Six-minute pulse oximetry walks

NICU skill sets

NPS/NRP

IABP

FCC
Participate in new educational programs and equipment/procedure implementations as needed. Facilitate the instruction of staff or students during clinical training, providing feedback during the orientation period when applicable.

Complete Health Stream yearly in a timely manner per organizational standards and take responsibility for personal education and professional growth, maintaining a log of activities.

Successful completion of the
FCC course or NRP instructor course (as applicable) and participation in
FCC/NRP courses as needed.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
