Job Summary

The Registered Respiratory Therapist will work under the supervision of the Chief Respiratory Therapist in the Respiratory Care Services, the Medical Direction of the Chief of the Pulmonary Section, and the administrative supervision of the Chief Medical Services. The incumbent will review completed work for results achieved and conformance to department policies and requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Provide respiratory care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, working independently and collaboratively with healthcare professionals.
  • Use data and patient assessment to establish appropriate plans of care and determine outcomes.
  • Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient care within the area of specialty.
  • Manage and maintain the airway and ventilation of patients using appropriate mechanical means.
  • Determine and implement complex respiratory care, including protocols, respiratory modalities, bronchoscopy, medications, or supplemental oxygen, and intubation.
  • Monitor critical systems and use advanced modes of ventilation and outpatient services, such as home ventilators and COPD case management.
  • Suggest alternate modes of treatment based on assessment and analysis of patient response to treatment.
  • Perform invasive procedures, such as arterial line placement, at the full performance level.
  • Serve as a preceptor to lower-graded staff and lead projects developing new policies, procedures, or protocols.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program and the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program.
Qualifications
  • Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
  • Must have successfully completed a respiratory care program accredited by the CoARC or its successor.
  • Must possess and maintain a full, current, and unrestricted license from a state to practice as an RRT.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, current, and unrestricted credential of RRT.
