Job Summary

The Registered Respiratory Therapist will work under the supervision of the Chief Respiratory Therapist in the Respiratory Care Services, Medical Direction of the Chief of the Pulmonary Section, and administrative supervision of the Chief Medical Services. The incumbent will review completed work for results achieved and conformance to department policies and requirements. They will use various sources for guidance and to make clinical decisions.

Responsibilities
  • Provide respiratory care in inpatient and outpatient settings, working independently and collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Use data and patient assessment to establish appropriate plans of care and determine outcomes.
  • Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient care within the area of specialty.
  • Manage and maintain patient airways and ventilation using mechanical means.
  • Determine and implement complex respiratory care, including protocols, respiratory modalities, bronchoscopy, medications, and supplemental oxygen.
  • Monitor critical systems and use advanced modes of ventilation and outpatient services.
  • Suggest alternate modes of treatment based on patient assessment and response to treatment.
  • Perform invasive procedures, such as arterial line placement, at the full performance level.
  • Serve as a preceptor to lower-graded staff and lead projects developing new policies, procedures, or protocols.
Requirements
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Education: Must have successfully completed a respiratory care program accredited by the CoARC or its successor.
  • Licensure: Must possess and maintain a full, current, and unrestricted license from a state to practice as an RRT.
  • Credential: Must possess and maintain a valid, current, and unrestricted credential of RRT.
  • English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Working Conditions

The Registered Respiratory Therapist will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent interruptions and stress from multiple calls, patient needs, and inquiries from others. They must be able to function under stress and make sound judgments, especially during emergency or crisis situations.
