GENERAL SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant will provide essential support in various accounting functions, including the preparation of reconciliations, financial close processes, and reporting. This role requires a solid understanding of accounting principles and adherence to professional standards, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant state regulations. The Staff Accountant will also need to apply knowledge of financial aid and grant management regulations.

PRIMARY DUTIES
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for:
  • Managing travel-related functions for Fiscal Services, including issuing travel authorizations, booking accommodations, and reconciling travel expenses.
  • Reconciling billings, invoices, and accounts related to student activities.
  • Providing professional support to the Controller and Assistant Controller in grant and financial aid scholarship activities, ensuring accurate reflection of financial aid in the general ledger.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations related to grant activities and performing necessary reconciliations.
  • Processing payroll and reconciling daily bank transactions.
  • Maintaining records of capital transactions and inventory.
  • Assisting with general accounting functions, including preparing reconciliations, monitoring reports, and supporting audit processes.
Additional responsibilities may include special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Education:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting and two (2) years of professional experience in accounting.
OR
  • An Associate's degree in Accounting and four (4) years of professional experience in accounting.
Experience:
  • Six (6) years of professional experience in accounting.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of GAAP.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Excel.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and solve problems effectively.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:
  • Experience in accounting related to grants, financial aid, or payroll.
  • Experience with capital accounting.
  • Experience in higher education or governmental financial reporting.
  • Experience with financial management systems.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Proficient in the use of office equipment and technology.
