POSITION SUMMARY

The role is focused on ensuring the safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of the fleet by executing high-quality preventive maintenance inspections and repairs. This position is crucial for diagnosing and addressing issues to minimize breakdowns, reduce vehicle downtime, and enhance overall fleet reliability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct necessary inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment within planned timeframes to optimize safety, reliability, and cost efficiency throughout the fleet's lifecycle.
  • Perform comprehensive inspections on all fleet vehicles, including tractors, trailers, and light-duty vehicles, adhering to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Execute quality preventive maintenance inspections in accordance with company standards on all fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Carry out maintenance repairs as needed to ensure safety and reliability across all fleet vehicles.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on refrigeration units.
  • Address all Driver Vehicle Inspection Report issues promptly and effectively.
  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs according to manufacturer specifications, covering various systems including engines, transmissions, electrical systems, and more.
  • Document all work performed accurately on work orders.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to Fleet Technician I and II to support their professional development.
  • May assume moderate supervisory responsibilities in the absence of Fleet Management.
  • Conduct electrical meter testing and complete electrical repairs and welding projects as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current and valid driver's license (CDL preferred, not required).
Experience
  • Technical training in Medium/Heavy Duty trucks.
  • 2-year technical school and 4 years of experience, or 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance and repair.
Certifications and Licenses
  • Annual Inspector Certification.
  • Brake Inspector Certification.
  • ASE certifications in Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks.
  • EPA section 608 (Core & Type II) and 609 HVAC & Refrigeration Certification.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
  • Expertise in all vehicle systems and components.
  • Advanced skills in diagnosing and repairing electrical systems.
  • Proficient in refrigeration system diagnostics and repairs.
  • Strong knowledge of Preventive Maintenance Inspections.
  • Moderate skills in welding and cutting techniques.
  • Competent in using computer-based diagnostic software.
  • Thorough understanding of DOT (FMCSA) regulations.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations and environmental standards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands to operate equipment.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and depth perception.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Occasional exposure to various weather conditions and mechanical parts.
  • Non-traditional hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required.
  • May involve travel to other locations for training or business needs.
