Position Summary:
We are in search of a skilled Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer with a proven history in the design of complex high-precision optical systems, emphasizing core engineering principles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize CAD software such as CREO and SolidWorks for mechanical design.
- Manage intricate assemblies and system layouts, applying reference geometry and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Conduct feasibility studies and tolerance analyses.
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using tools like Ansys and/or SolidWorks, along with various analyses including vibration, thermal, and fluid dynamics.
- Lead both conceptual and detailed design efforts, employing 3D solid modeling (SolidWorks/Creo) while guiding material and component selection.
- Facilitate and participate in design reviews to ensure peer-oriented assessments.
- Clearly communicate requirements, timelines, and deliverables in both written and verbal formats.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather necessary requirements.
- Build prototypes, validate designs, and assist in system integration.
- Generate comprehensive technical documentation, including detailed drawings, analysis results, and test reports.
- Oversee the process of releasing parts and assemblies within the change management framework, ensuring proper product structure for manufacturing and service.
- Transition designs to manufacturing and support the engineering-to-production handoff.
- Lead opto-mechanical projects from initial concept through to production.
Qualifications:
Desired Skills:
- Profound understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, welding fabrication, castings, sheet metal forming, and 3D printing.
- Intermediate knowledge of precision machine design.
- Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, including design concepts, machine elements, materials, and fabrication techniques.
- Solid grasp of statics, mechanics of materials, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer.
- Experience with 3D solid modeling software (preferably Creo or SolidWorks).
- Familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) systems (Windchill preferred).
- Background in implementing motion control systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to drive requirements and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Experience leading projects through various phases of the product lifecycle, including managing a small team of engineers.
- A commitment to contributing to team objectives and demonstrating perseverance and a desire for continuous improvement.
- Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Capability to design within a research and development environment, adapting to the fast-paced semiconductor industry.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 6 years of experience.
