We are seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to join our team as Student Nurse Externs. In this role, you will work alongside experienced nurses to provide high-quality patient care, develop your clinical skills, and enhance your nursing education.

As a Student Nurse Extern, you will be responsible for observing, collecting, and documenting patient information, participating in the collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues, and providing assistance to patients and their families during admission, orientation, and discharge.

You will also be expected to provide routine direct and indirect patient care, including vital sign measurement, specimen collection, skin preps/scrubs, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range of motion exercises, postural drainage, and supportive 1:1 patient and family interactions.

Additionally, you will provide direct personal care to patients, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with ambulation, as well as indirect care, such as cleaning the work area, changing linens, re-stocking supplies, cleaning/sterilizing instruments, transporting patients/supplies/specimens, and assisting in the orientation of new employees and students.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is $17.43 per hour, with opportunities for growth and advancement based on experience and performance. We also offer comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plan, paid time off, and more.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must possess a current enrollment in an accredited prelicensure nursing program, with anticipated graduation within 12 months time from the start of student nurse externship. You should also have a High School Diploma/GED, listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

You should be able to organize and prioritize assignments in the delivery of patient care, attain and maintain unit-specific competencies, and demonstrate basic computer skills. Additionally, you should be fluent in verbal and written English language and have the ability to lift and carry 40-50 lbs.
