Job Summary

The Northwest School of the Arts is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Physical Education Teacher to join our team. As a Physical Education Teacher, you will be responsible for teaching middle school students the fundamentals of various sports and physical activities, while promoting a culture of physical fitness and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach one section of middle school physical education, including cross-country, volleyball, soccer, basketball, bouldering, ultimate frisbee, urban hiking, and track and field.
  • Collaborate with other physical education teachers to develop and implement curriculum.
  • Coach the team for home and away games, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship.
  • Plan effective and engaging practices that cater to a range of skill levels.
  • Teach skills that promote health and wellness, including physical movement and healthy competition.
  • Supervise students until every student leaves campus after games.
  • Communicate with families and students regularly regarding competition schedules, equipment needs, and other important information.
  • Cultivate positive family partnerships and relationships with league schools.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and minimum 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated success with culturally responsive pedagogy and experience teaching a diverse student body.
  • Experience teaching a range of skill levels within a team, from beginner to experienced.
  • Commitment to the school's mission, values, and philosophy, especially related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, social justice, environmental sustainability, and global perspective.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and interest in teaching middle school students.
  • Experience teaching a range of sports and physical activities.
Compensation and Benefits

The Northwest School of the Arts offers a competitive salary range of $57,369-$104,618 based on education and years of experience. We also offer an excellent benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, short- and long-term disability, and life and accident insurance coverage, fully paid for employee-only coverage. A retirement program matches up to 6% of an employee's salary after one year of service in a 403(b) plan.
