Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Relations and Communications Specialist to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our Enterprise Marketing and Communications department, you will play a critical role in managing the reputation of and elevating awareness for VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute strategic communications plans to promote the hospital's mission, vision, and goals.
  • Manage media inquiries and determine appropriate responses in accordance with university and health system strategic goals and priorities.
  • Build relationships with internal stakeholders to gather information and develop compelling stories for external media and social media channels.
  • Collaborate with other communicators and units across the health system and university to ensure consistent messaging and branding.
  • Develop and disseminate routine communications, such as newsletters, updates, and intranet content, to engage and inform CMH team members, faculty, and clinical providers.
Requirements
  • At least 3 years of public relations experience, particularly in strategic planning, media relations, and event management.
  • Proven ability to work independently at a consistently high level of productivity and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with Associated Press (AP) style guidelines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse team member environment.
Preferred Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or marketing.
  • Proven public relations experience, particularly in strategic planning, media relations, and event management.
