Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Library Collections Specialist to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will provide specialized support to the Librarian for Classics, Hellenic Studies, and Linguistics, and will be responsible for managing acquisitions and collection maintenance functions for the Hellenic Studies materials, including ephemera and digital resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Librarian for Classics, Hellenic Studies, and Linguistics to provide specialized support and assistance with acquisitions management, collection maintenance, and digital resource development.
  • Manage and maintain the Classics, Hellenic Studies, and Linguistics periodicals collection and the Classics, Hellenic Studies, and Linguistics Graduate Study Room.
  • Process and catalog ephemeral material, including pamphlets, fliers, bulletins, posters, and other non-traditional formats.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, and supervising student assistants to support these activities as needed.
  • Address and independently resolve complex problems and assist the Librarian in establishing goals, policies, and procedures.
Requirements
  • Fluent reading knowledge and comprehension of Modern Greek.
  • Minimum two years of academic library working experience.
  • Ability to provide specialized assistance for faculty and students.
  • Experience working with ephemeral material, digital, and IT projects and workflows.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English with a variety of library staff in written and oral form.
  • Proficiency with searching OCLC and other major bibliographic databases.
  • Proficiency in the use and analysis of data from spreadsheet software such as MS Excel.
  • Facility with Internet searching.
  • Ability to move boxes of books (up to 30 pounds) from book trucks to shelves.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree with a major in a related field (e.g. Modern Greek; Greek Studies).
  • Familiarity with XML technology as is used in the creation of library resources.
