JOB SUMMARY

The role involves practicing as a legal advisor within the Company, addressing a variety of legal issues pertaining to the Capital Projects and Maintenance division of the Legal Department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Handles routine and moderately complex legal matters related to capital and maintenance projects, including advising on necessary governmental approvals and private rights essential for project completion, while also supporting the real estate division in legal aspects concerning the acquisition, maintenance, and safeguarding of real estate assets.
  • Provides legal guidance to Company personnel, offering recommendations and advocating for the Company on routine or moderately complex issues; resolves intricate or unusual matters through collaboration with senior attorneys.
  • Engages in managing pending or potential litigation, including assisting with the preparation and submission of legal documents, discovery processes, oral arguments, settlement discussions, and other litigation-related activities.
  • Reviews and negotiates contracts and other legal documents; advises Company personnel on the implications and potential impacts of these documents.
  • Conducts analysis of statutes, regulations, orders, case law, and other legal precedents, advising Company personnel on their substance and relevance to the Company.
  • Performs legal research and evaluates statutes, case law, agency orders, and other precedents; provides counsel to Company personnel through both verbal and written communication.
  • Oversees outside legal counsel and other vendors engaged to assist with Legal Department matters.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school or equivalent experience and education.
  • Licensed to practice law in state and federal courts.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a practicing attorney.
  • At least two (2) years of experience managing business litigation cases and disputes, preferably within the utility sector.
  • At least two (2) years of experience addressing legal matters and disputes related to real estate, preferably within the utility sector.
  • Knowledge of the utility industry is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage projects effectively.
  • Strong research skills related to legal precedents and other relevant information.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and documentation abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with colleagues and external parties.
  • Capability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
  • Skill in managing multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Word and email applications for job-related tasks.
