Construction Defect Claims Specialist

United Fire & Casualty Company is seeking a skilled Construction Defect Claims Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our claims team, you will play a critical role in managing and resolving construction defect claims. Your expertise will be essential in navigating complex claims, collaborating with stakeholders, and driving files to resolution.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage assigned claims across multiple jurisdictions, setting case strategy in partnership with technical leads and corporate claims.
- Perform coverage analysis, duty to defend, duty to indemnify, and choice of law.
- Draft complex coverage letters, including reservation of rights, disclaimers, and responses to pushback letters.
- Identify issues requiring resolution, select appropriate methods, and negotiate resolutions for optimal outcomes.
- Proactively manage counsel, collaborating with defense counsel and coverage counsel on settling litigation strategies.
- Consult with managers and corporate claims on large losses, ensuring best outcomes.
- Evaluate coverage, review policy coverage, endorsements, and contracts to determine claim coverage and payability.
- Investigate facts of loss using various communication methods, determining liability, extent of damages, and proper reserve and evaluation.
- Compile and review information from various sources, including scope of work documents, defect lists, expert reports, and homeowner matrices.
- Navigate legal documents and filings, dealing with extensive litigation and lawyers.
- Negotiate with litigated and non-litigated files, resolving claims with special masters, mediators, plaintiff attorneys, and unrepresented homeowners.
- Write reports for the claim file, documenting all activity and analysis of the loss.
- Report to reinsurers with well-written analysis and updates.
- Four-year college degree preferred.
- 10+ years' experience in handling casualty claims, with 5 years of direct construction defect claims experience.
- Working knowledge of high-exposure construction defect claims and considerable litigation handling experience.
- General office environment.
- Occasional traveling required for mediations, courthouse settlement conferences, or trials.
- Occasional site inspections as determined by your supervisor.
United Fire & Casualty Company offers a competitive salary structure, commensurate with skills, credentials, and experience. The salary range is $80,000 - $120,000, with roles in various locations potentially providing an increase based on location. This position is also eligible for an Annual Bonus based on Company/Individual Performance and is at company discretion. Full-time employees are eligible for benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401k, Cash-balance pension, Discretionary Time Off (DTO), paid holidays, and more.
