KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review all patient admission documentation scanned into the electronic medical record (EMR) system, ensuring accuracy and checking for duplicate patient IDs.
- Assess all data in the EMR for new patients and enter relevant HAP data for specific departments.
- Communicate with insurance providers to gather information on benefits and secure initial authorizations.
- Input all insurance and authorization details into the patient's account within the Accumed practice management system.
- Conduct weekly Medicaid eligibility verifications for currently eligible patients and self-pay patients.
- Update patient insurance profiles and manage claims transfer when patients gain or lose Medicaid eligibility.
- Re-verify insurance benefits and authorizations for patients referred between staff members.
- Notify front desk personnel of any lapses in patient insurance and follow up with new insurance details.
- Assist patients in understanding their insurance coverage, including allowable services and co-payments.
- Provide support to satellite office staff regarding insurance inquiries.
- Address customer and insurance representative inquiries promptly and efficiently.
- Participate in telephone rotations and assist at the Client Financial Services window as needed.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required. A certificate or degree from a vocational or technical school is preferred. One to three years of relevant experience and/or training is advantageous.
