Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

Performs administrative support duties of a clerical nature, involving multiple steps and analysis of data to identify procedures to be completed. Decisions are made based on well-defined rules, regulations, methods, and procedures with minimal deviation. Responsibilities include providing basic information, scanning, imaging, and finalizing correspondence and reports, compiling and entering data, retrieving data from records or databases, answering and routing telephone calls, sorting and purging office records, basic typing and keyboarding, processing offender visiting applications, opening and inspecting incoming non-legal offender mail, processing outgoing mail, and sorting and distributing incoming staff mail.

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Licensing & Certification

  • Valid Driver's License

Minimum Qualifications

  • Six months of documented full-time experience in general office, clerical, or administrative work. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of full-time, paid work experience in administrative support work
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; read and comprehend written materials
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience reflecting the ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment, and discretion in the performance of duties

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements

  • Applicants will be subject to a background check and criminal history investigation; must pass a drug screen and a TB test unless promoting, transferring, or demoting from another safety-sensitive position within the same agency; and possess a valid Driver's License
  • Upon offer of employment, the selected candidate must obtain a valid Kansas Certificate of Tax Clearance within 10 days of the job offer. The certificate can be obtained by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue's website. A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual's account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws. A Tax Clearance expires every 90 days. If an individual who has been offered employment cannot provide proof of a tax clearance certificate, the individual will be required to enter into a payment plan with KDOR and remain current on such payment plan or make other arrangements with KDOR to achieve the tax clearance required under Executive Order 2004-03.
