Position Overview
The Senior Director of Proposal Initiatives is responsible for steering the design, development, and execution of all proposals for the Kelley School of Business - Bloomington.
Department-Specific Duties
- Reports directly to the Associate Dean for Research at KSOB-B and collaborates with KSOB-B leadership and faculty.
- Formulates and implements research priorities aligned with the school's strengths to cultivate significant funding opportunities.
- Supervises proposal development activities, including the identification of critical external and internal funding prospects, faculty training through workshops, and coordination of proposal submissions.
- Develops and sustains the technical expertise and relationships necessary for crafting complex proposals and key research initiatives that align with the overarching mission of KSOB-B.
- Engages with funding agencies to gain insights into current and forthcoming Requests for Applications suitable for pursuit.
- Provides high-level operational leadership and coordination for assigned staff to define research development strategies, processes, and standards; offers guidance on high-priority research projects.
- Establishes both short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, managing project timelines and resource allocations for multi-phase research initiatives.
- Oversees the formulation of innovative strategies to pursue external funding across diverse research and scholarly activities.
- Conducts various personnel actions, including hiring, promotions, performance evaluations, and terminations.
- Collaborates with senior leadership teams and participates in multi-disciplinary advisory groups across campuses.
- Manages high-level assignments and the allocation of technical resources, negotiating and coordinating initiatives involving staff from various departments.
- Provides budgetary recommendations based on resource requirements and ensures cost efficiency.
- Researches and collaborates with senior leaders, research compliance, and other stakeholders to recommend development standards, best practices, and related policies.
Education and experience combinations may be considered. Additional education beyond the minimum may substitute for work experience, and vice versa.
EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in a related field)
- Master's degree

- 4 years of experience in research administration or a related field
- 1 year of management experience
- 5 years of experience in grant or proposal development
- Experience in a large higher education institution or a funding agency such as a Foundation or Government Unit

Work Location
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, incorporating both remote and in-person work, subject to future changes based on university policy and departmental needs.
