Job Summary

Fort Valley State University's Family and Consumer Sciences Department is seeking a qualified Early Head Start Teacher to provide a safe and supportive educational environment for infants and toddlers. The successful candidate will develop individualized goals for children, conduct ongoing assessments, and facilitate transitions into Head Start or other preschool settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet the diverse needs of children, including those at risk, with special needs, gifted, and culturally diverse.
  • Integrate Early Head Start components into daily classroom activities.
  • Develop and implement daily plans that reflect mandated elements, parental and cultural influences, and promote social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
  • Individualize activities to meet the unique needs and strengths of children in the classroom.
  • Establish consistent routines, including feeding, diapering, and toileting, napping, and planned group experiences.
  • Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem-solving, cooperation, socialization, and choice-making.
  • Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental involvement.
  • Supervise and monitor children at all times, responding to crisis or emergency situations as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Infant and Child Development or a related field; or an Associate's degree with two or more years of related experience.
  • Must pass a drug screening and background check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with children birth to three years of age.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications are desired.
Working Conditions
  • Punctuality and ability to work Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Ability to work indoors and transition the classroom to outdoors.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle objects, reach, and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds; occasionally lift 40 pounds from waist to shoulder.
