Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Head Start Teacher to join our team at Fort Valley State University's Family and Consumer Sciences Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a safe and nurturing educational environment for infants and toddlers, while also developing individualized goals and assessments to support their growth and development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the program's adopted curriculum and meet the needs of each child.
  • Collaborate with Child Development Specialists to plan and implement daily activities that promote social, emotional, and cognitive development.
  • Ensure a developmentally appropriate classroom setting that promotes learning and exploration.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians to share progress and involve them in their child's education.
  • Participate in staff development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in early childhood education.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Infant and Child Development or a related field, or an Associate's degree with two years of relevant experience.
  • Significant experience and alternative training in early childcare and development may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Must pass a drug screening and background check.
Working Conditions
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel to and from one of the centers located in Taylor, Macon, Dooly, and Crisp counties.
  • Must be punctual and able to work Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, and be willing to relocate to another center within the program when needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, and occasionally lift 40 pounds from waist to shoulder.
