Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Acute Care Technician to join our team at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide direct and indirect care duties under the guidance and direction of the registered nurse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the provision of care to patients and families under the direction of the RN
  • Perform or assist RN with initial admission/intake, document patient care, vitals, weights, allergies, interventions, and quickly and accurately communicate patient information to the appropriate team member
  • Transfer patients to other departments and areas utilizing appropriate techniques and equipment to transport patients, utilize and exemplify safety behaviors for error prevention, and identify potential safety concerns and communicate with unit leadership as appropriate
  • Provide 1:1 observation for psychiatric emergencies per hospital standard, apply, document, remove, and supervise restraints, monitor care and escalate concerns, and perform dressing changes for central venous catheters, airway management, positioning patients for various procedures and specimen collections, bladder catheterization and Foley insertion, OG/NG placement, spinal immobilization, and recover from Phase II sedation
  • Perform procedures under direction of RN, including peripheral IV insertion with and without venous blood sampling, venipuncture/phlebotomy, prime fluids and enteral feeds, point of care testing, obtain and prepare supplies for procedures, oxygen administration, bag/valve/mask/mapleson airway support as ordered/needed, EKGs as ordered, wound care and dressing application, positioning, lifting, transferring, and turning of patients, and monitor patient during insertion of peripherally inserted central venous catheter (PICC) in Fluoroscopy or within intensive care units under direction of RN
  • Maintain proficiency with transport and patient care equipment, including monitoring and infusion pumps, comply with all CHOP policies and procedures, and perform area-based skills, including emergency department based skills, vascular access service based skills, and education qualifications
Requirements
  • High School Diploma / GED Required
  • Technical Diploma EMT-Paramedic, EMT, LPN or similar program Preferred
  • At least one (1) year Previous clinical health care experience Required
  • ED/Critical Care Technician at another hospital Preferred
  • Ability to perform clinical technical tasks, ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages, basic knowledge of growth and development, and licenses and certifications, including Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS)
