Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Survey Director to join our team at Bowman Consulting. As a Survey Director, you will be responsible for overseeing the surveying function of assigned business units, providing leadership and direction to staff, and ensuring effective execution of projects.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction:
  • Provide broad guidance to senior-level management on key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.
  • Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution of projects.
  • Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
At the Operational and Company Level:
  • Assist with the marketing of the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients.
  • Coordinate with other internal departments to meet project requirements.
  • Serve as a technical advisor by providing senior-level input and evaluation on projects.
Do the Work:
  • Meet with prospective clients, prepare proposals, and establish budgets and schedules.
  • Maintain close liaison with clients to resolve all project questions, such as technical requirements, completion requirements, and billing inquiries.
  • Oversee all surveying activities, including review of all project changes, pending or anticipated alterations to the contract, additional work requests, and all other factors that may significantly affect staffing requirements or budget.
  • Supervise the work of all survey project personnel to ensure it meets the highest professional standards.
  • Coordinate with other internal departments to meet project requirements.
  • Define the scope of multiple, complex projects and develop a plan to accomplish land survey projects. Monitor progress toward deliverable schedules.
  • Compile project status reports.
  • Review job cost sheets/prepare monthly billings. Ensure assigned projects stay within budget allocation.
  • Collect outstanding monies due from assigned clients.
  • Participate in and formulate marketing presentations and attend marketing meetings.
  • Secure repeat business from existing clients and identify new clients.
  • Supervise the work of Project Managers when needed.
Requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Survey Director with a strong background in land surveying and project management. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying or a related field, professional land surveying registration, and at least 10 years of experience in land surveying or related land development. The candidate should also have knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Carlson principles, as well as experience managing a survey department. Strong survey business acumen, including preparing proposals, RFP responses, and pursuing business development, is also required. Additionally, the candidate should have strong local jurisdictional knowledge for plat preparation and approval.
