Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Direction
    • Provide strategic guidance and oversight to the surveying function, ensuring effective execution and quality assurance.
    • Manage people and processes to achieve business objectives, including budgeting, staff management, and deliverables.
  • Operational and Company Level
    • Assist in marketing the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients.
    • Coordinate with internal departments to meet project requirements and ensure seamless delivery.
    • Serve as a technical advisor, providing senior-level input and evaluation on projects.
  • Do the Work
    • Meet with prospective clients to prepare proposals, establish budgets, and schedules.
    • Maintain close liaison with clients to resolve project questions, including technical requirements, completion requirements, and billing inquiries.
    • Oversee all surveying activities, including review of project changes, contract alterations, and additional work requests.
    • Supervise the work of survey project personnel to ensure high professional standards.
    • Coordinate with internal departments to meet project requirements.
    • Define the scope of multiple, complex projects and develop plans to accomplish land survey projects.
    • Monitor progress toward deliverable schedules and compile project status reports.
    • Review job cost sheets and prepare monthly billings to ensure assigned projects stay within budget allocation.
    • Collect outstanding monies due from assigned clients.
    • Participate in and formulate marketing presentations and attend marketing meetings.
    • Secure repeat business from existing clients and identify new clients.
    • Supervise the work of Project Managers when needed.
    Requirements
    • Qualifications
      • Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying or a related field.
      • Professional Land Surveying registration.
      • Ten or more years of land surveying or related land development experience, including a minimum of two years of project management experience.
      • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Carlson principles.
      • Licensed surveyor in the relevant state.
      • Experience managing a Survey Department is preferred.
      • Strong Survey Business Acumen, including proposal preparation, RFP responses, and business development.
      • Strong Local Jurisdictional Knowledge for Plat preparation and approval.
    • Physical Demands and Working Environment
      • Primarily indoor professional office environment with occasional outdoor work.
      • Mobility around an office environment and job/construction sites.
      • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment and data collection equipment.
      • Local travel during the business day, with occasional out-of-the-area and overnight travel.
