We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced professor to join our Classics Department as an Open Rank Position in Latin Poetry and Critical Theory. The successful candidate will contribute to the department's research and teaching excellence, with a focus on Latin poetry and critical theory.

About the Department

The Classics Department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a vibrant and diverse community of scholars dedicated to the study of the ancient Mediterranean. Our department offers a comprehensive program in Greek and Latin, with a strong emphasis on philological methodologies and critical approaches. Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in Latin language and literature, including elementary to advanced language and literature courses, courses on literature in translation, classical civilization courses, and graduate seminars.
  • Contribute to the department's research and teaching excellence, with a focus on Latin poetry and critical theory.
  • Develop innovative new courses to engage students both within and outside the department.
  • Direct theses and dissertations, and provide mentorship to graduate students.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Classics or a related field.
  • Strong research agenda and teaching experience in Latin poetry and critical theory.
  • Ability to teach at all levels of Latin language and literature.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
