Description

As a Residential Support Specialist at New Narrative Ltd, you will play a vital role in providing supportive services to adults with serious mental illness. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure a clean and organized environment, supporting residents in their individual recovery goals, and assisting with medication administration as ordered by a licensed medical professional.



Key Responsibilities

  • Understand and adhere to Oregon rules regarding Home and Community Based mental health services, ensuring residents' rights and freedoms are respected.
  • Assist clients with daily living skills, such as keeping appointments and completing household tasks.
  • Support clients in achieving individual goals outlined in their person-centered plans and Residential Service Plans.
  • Oversee house safety, including fire drills, security, and resolving disputes among residents.
  • Ensure the facility is clean, orderly, and safe at all times.
  • Provision healthy meals and maintain kitchen cleanliness.
  • Encourage healthy eating habits and an active lifestyle for program participants.
  • Prompt residents to participate in organized physical activity and mindfulness around healthy eating habits.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of food storage areas, common areas, and employee office.
  • Complete all shift duties required by each individual facility.
  • Assist residents with deep cleaning and laundry.
  • Conduct contraband checks as allowed by resident and OARs.
  • Distribute medication in accordance with physicians' orders and New Narrative policy.
  • Document all interactions with residents during each shift according to policy and Oregon Administrative Rules.
  • Document critical incidents in a timely manner and notify supervisor immediately.
  • Know supervisor's contact information.
  • Complete shift summary and individual resident notes each shift.
  • Adhere to all New Narrative policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to the NASW Code of Ethics.
  • Overnight employees must be awake, alert, and dressed at all times.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by House Manager, Facility Administrator, or Residential Program Manager.


Requirements

  • Must have a criminal records clearance through the State Mental Health Division prior to starting employment.
  • Must be tested for tuberculosis within two weeks of date of hire.
  • Must undergo a minimum of 16 hours pre-service orientation, which will include a review of house rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Will not work over 40 hours per week unless authorized by a supervisor.
  • Will report to work promptly and adhere to all scheduling and attendance policies.
  • Regular in-service training on issues relevant to residential care to total not less than 8 hours a year.
  • Attend and positively participate in required meetings, including mandatory monthly staff meetings.
  • Pursue ongoing development of skills and competencies.
  • Follow all agency policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Comply with all New Narrative safety rules and regulations.
  • Follow through on all directives and instructions.
  • Maintain security of keys, files, and facility systems.
  • Will be required to work at other sites during times of temporary need.

Must be 18 years of age and capable of implementing the emergency procedures and disaster plan.
