Job Summary

This is a PRN position (up to 28 hours/week) with no benefits. The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services supports individuals by promoting recovery, self-determination, and wellness in all aspects of life. DBHDS operates 12 facilities, including 8 behavioral health facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for behavioral rehabilitation.

Job Duties

The Registered Nurse II at DBHDS is responsible for providing advanced nursing care for patients with psychiatric disorders in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, as well as nursing standards and regulations. This includes safely implementing the use of Seclusion/Restraints, including knowledge of physical/emotional risk factors of the patients served at the facility.

Requirements
  • Experience working as a Registered Nurse
  • Successfully complete BLS, Therapeutic Options (TO), and other required training upon employment at facility
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills, team-focused care, and a professional approach
  • Displays the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate care utilizing knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric, and physical disorders, and cultural needs of the individual psychiatric patient
  • Experience/Ability to delegate, supervise, evaluate nursing processes to help solve complex problems
  • Current and in good standing Registered Nurse license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or license eligible; multi-state compact endorsement is accepted
  • Valid driver's license is required and must remain valid and in good standing throughout employment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with individuals with mental illness, substance misuse disorders, and/or involvement in the judicial system
  • Veterans and people with National Service
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English
