Family Medicine Physician

Health Advocates Network is seeking a Family Medicine Physician to work at a facility in Williamsburg, VA. This is a registry position with our company.
Job Summary:We are looking for a skilled Family Medicine Physician to provide medical care to adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient populations. The ideal candidate will have experience working with patients with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) and psychiatric crisis management.
Responsibilities:- Provide medical care to adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient populations, including examination, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of medical illnesses.
- Serve as a medical consultant to the attending psychiatrist/practitioner.
- Complete admission medical assessments, including history and physical examinations, mental status examination, and entering admission orders.
- Order diagnostic/therapeutic tests and procedures, and monitor patients' progress.
- Collaborate with attending psychiatric practitioners to provide DSM-5 diagnoses and treatment plans.
- Prescribe medications at the lowest effective dose and assess medication side effects.
- Ensure timely and quality documentation in patient records.
- 3+ years of experience as a Physician/Practitioner, autonomous preferred.
- Strong experience working with patients with SMI and psychiatric crisis management.
- Experience working with adult admissions or geriatric admissions and acute and chronic health management of adult and geriatric populations.
- BLS Healthcare Provider certification is required.
The facility provides care to forensic, NGRI, civil, jail transfer, and geriatric populations. The caseload varies by ward and assignment, and psychiatry coverage is provided.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for patient care that includes examination, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of medical illnesses for adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient population.
- Serves as medical consultant to the attending psychiatrist/practitioner.
- Completes admission medical assessments (including history and physical examinations, mental status examination) and entering admission orders.
- Orders diagnostic/therapeutic tests and procedures.
- Monitors patients' progress, including laboratory values and special procedures with appropriate follow-up or referrals as needed.
- Consults with authorized representatives/legal guardians on patient medical status.
- Collaborates with attending psychiatric practitioner if needed providing DSM-5 Diagnoses that are valid, complete, and supported by timely and appropriate assessment.
- Provides coverage to the medical clinic, the admission suit to ensure the admission process is completed.
- Prescribes medications at the lowest effective dose in accordance with rational clinical practices. Assesses and address medication side-effects and report adverse drug reactions.
- Ensures timely and quality documentation (admissions, follow-up and annual, etc.) in patient records in accordance with policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and guidelines.
